The Wheatfield House
Sifnos
Each season in Sifnos brings an ever‐changing landscape and different charms and delights.
Spring (April to Late May)
The tourist season kicks off at Easter. By mid‐May, most restaurants are open and stay open until October. The sea is chilly before mid‐May and guests may prefer taking a dip in the heated pool. But spring is delightful – the fields are covered in wildflowers and a traditional Greek Easter is not to be missed. Guests can enjoy the lush green wheatfield and blossoming perennials on the estate.
Summer and Early Autumn (June to Late September)
The island is cooled by the Aegean breeze and the and sea water is at a perfect temperature. All the restaurants and bars are fully open, as are the art galleries and local‐run boutiques. One can enjoy a cocktail on a rooftop bar in the steno (main pedestrian street) of Apollonia, taking in the view of the village below.
Late Autumn (October to November)
Late Autumn is perfect for hiking and most days are clear and sunny. Dining options become more limited. The pool is heated so that you can swim even on chilly days.
Winter
In winter the island returns to its agricultural rhythms. One can get to know the islanders and obtain an authentic and participative experience of Mediterranean village life. The house is kept warm and snug in winter thanks to the insulation, HVAC system and interior fireplace. But January through March can be cold and windy, and the few restaurants are only open Thursday through Sunday. Island living in winter is an opportunity to connect with your inner Greek, work on your first novel, savor the solitude, and commune with nature.
